Step 1.

Think about how important lucid dreaming is to you. why YOU want to lucid dream. and why you are absolutely going to. Set a "mental reminder" of sorts by convincing yourself you will perform a reality check once dreaming, and then become vividly, steadily lucid. You will really have to put lots of emphasis and importance on these affirmations otherwise your brain will put them off as not of importance.
